Nephrosclerosis

•The photograph shows the gross appearance of scarring of the kidney (nephrosclerosis).
•Most of the cortical surface shows a fine granularity (arrowhead). Normal kidney surface by comparison would show a smooth surface.
•Other areas of the surface show more signicant loss of renal cortical parenchyma (arrow). These areas are larger and the depressions are deeper.
•The kidney is from a patient with scleroderma.
