• The tumor involves both poles of the kidney and the intervening equatorial region.
• This renal cell carcinoma is tan in viable regions (T) rather than the characteristic yellow.
• The yellow areas represent extra-renal adipose tissue in the renal sinus (S) that has been infiltrated by tumor.
• Necrotic areas of the tumor (N) showed a dusky red-brown color.
