Lipoma
Etiology:

• Unknown.
Pathogenesis:

• Unknown.
Epidemiology:

• Among the commonest tumors of adults.
• Occur at all ages.
• Males and females equally affected.
General Gross Description:

• May occur anywhere in the body, most often in the subcutaneous tissues.
• Grossly, characterized by lobulated soft yellow mass, surrounded by a thin capsule.
• Benign tumors of fat cell (adipocyte) origin.
General Microscopic Description:

• Microscopically, composed of adult, mature, histologically normal looking adipocytes.
Clinical Correlations:

• Usually present as a painless, soft mass.
• The clinical course is benign and complete excision is curative.
