Normal Skin
Normal Skin

A high power view of the epidermis of a pigmented skin.
The stratified squamous epithelium of the epidermis is generated by a single layer of basal cells that are deeply pigmented in this particular instance of skin from a pigmented individual.
Lying above it are two to three layers of the stratum spinosum.
Since this is a thin skin, the number of layers is relatively few.
Lying above the stratum spinosum is the granular cell layer.
Lying further above is a layer of cornified cells that are seen to be desquamating off the skin in this image.
