| Basal Cell Carcinoma
| Multiple small islands of proliferating basal cells are seen in this appearance.
The characteristic appearance of a basal cell carcinoma is the irregular shape of these islands, with a tendency to finger-like projections in all directions.
The lesions are lined by a single layer of basal cells around the periphery with a distinct tendency to pallisading, which may not be obvious at this power.
The small dark-staining cuboidal basal cells comprise the rest of this lesion.
