| Germinal Plate Hemorrhage
| Premature infant brain with bilateral subependymal
hemorrhages in the germinal plate with rupture into
the lateral and third ventricles. Probably caused the
death of the infant.
The germinal plate is the area where neuroblasts and
glioblasts form and from which they migrate. It has
thin walled, large caliber blood vessels with little
matrix around them which are easily ruptured when
there is increased blood flow as in transient hypertension.
