Hydrocephalus
Hydrocephalus

A coronal section of the brain through the corpus striatum.
Note the markedly enlarged lateral ventricles, with thinning of the white matter.
This is characteristic of hydrocephalus due to obstruction of CSF pathways.
The increase in cerebral spinal fluid pressure in the ventricles causes distension of the ventricles and pressure atrophy of the brain.
