The specimen is of 4.5 adjacent vertebral bodies in section.
The two black arrows flank an intervertebral disk.
Note that the bones in this specimen do not have the pink appearance with white specks characteristic of normal vertebral bodies.
This is because the marrow has been replaced by fibrous tissue.
