| General Gross Description: • Weight 250-350 grams each • Soft, well aerated, pink tan • Often tracing of black carbon pigment outlining the subpleural macrophages |
| General Microscopic Description: • Bronchi, containing cartilage in their walls, branch to form bronchioles, lacking cartilage, ending in terminal bronchioles which give rise to respiratory bronchioles and then alveoli • Clara cells increase and goblet cells decrease progressing down the bronchial divisions. • Other cells include Kulchitsky (neuroendocrine cells) and ciliated columnar cells • Alveolar membrane includes type 1 pneumocytes,alveolar basement membrane, capillary basement membrane, and endothelial cells. |
