Bisected ovary exhibiting multiple cysts.
Some cysts show septations.
Smooth glistening lining.
No solid mass of neoplasm.
Fluid was clear, colorless and thin.

unknown
Pathogenesis

derives from germinal (surface) epithelium
?epithelium pinched off into ovarian stroma following rupture of follicle
may undergo metaplasia and secretion,
Epidemiology

reproductive age women
General Gross Description

smooth external surface
unilocular cyst or one with few septae
contains clear, colorless, thin fluid
smooth, thin lining +/- small papillae
General Microscopic Description

pseudostratified epithelium with ciliated and secretory cells
histologically indistinguishable from TUBAL epithelium
bland stroma
Clinical Correlation

reproductive age women
"adnexal" mass
symptoms of heaviness or pressure if large
cured with surgical cystectomy
20% bilateral
