rare neoplasm
General Gross Description

smooth external surface
firm, tan white interior with interlacing bundles of fibers
very large neoplasms may have cystic spaces
General Microscopic Description

bland, spindle cells resembling fibroblasts
some collagen production
occasional lipid laden thecal cells may be seen
Clinical Correlation

reproductive age or perimenopausal
40% show associated ascites (Meig's syndrome) clinically similar to ovarian adenocarcinoma
ascites disappears with removal of the primary
may be associated with basal cell nevus syndrome
rare malignancy termed fibrosarcoma
