Etiology
• Unknown
• ? abnormal hormonal stimulation in utero
• ? genetic

Pathogenesis
• Failure of fusion of the Mullerian ducts results in bicornuate uterus
• Failure of degeneration of the septum may result in septae of varying lengths including septation extending into the upper vagina resulting in a uterus didelphys with double upper vagina, cervix and endometrial cavity,

Epidemiology
• Rare
• May be associated with urinary tract abnormalities

General Gross Description
• External view of didelphys shows bifurcate uterus
|
General Microscopic Description
• Microscopic appearance unremarkable
|
Clinical Correlation
• Associated with spontaneous abortions or infertility
|
