Both surface epithelium and the endocervical clefts (blue
arrows) are replaced by abnormal squamous epithelium
which lacks maturation.
The involvement of endocervical clefts does NOT imply
invasion since they are in continuity with the surface.
Black tint on surface (black arrows) is due to india
ink applied in the pathology department.
