Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis
Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

Electron microscopy of the sclerosed segments in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis show large dense deposits (dep) that frequently occupy previous capillary spaces.
These deposits are believed to be serum proteins that have been entrapped by the sclerosing process.
Usually there is no viable endothelial cell in these areas, such as at the top of the photograph.
The arrows point to undulating gray bands of glomerular basement membranes.
