Infarction of Small Intestine
Infarction of Small Intestine

The tissue is completely necrotic but can be identified as small intestine by the presence of necrotic villi(arrow)
The hemorrhage in an intestinal infarct commonly appears first in the villi as they represent the end vascular bed of the intestine and the mucosa is more sensitive to ischemia than other parts of the intestinal wall
