| Transmural necrosis of the small intestinal wall is seen
The presence of ghost villi(black arrow) identifies the
tissue as small intestine
The serosa(green arrow) is covered with a dense infiltrate
of polys indicating acute peritonitis
On the basis of this slide you can not distinguish between
acute peritonitis secondary to actual perforation or
peritonitis secondary to migration of bacteria through
devitalized intestine
