Infarct Small Intestine x10
Infarct Small Intestine x10

There is transmural necrosis of the small intestinal wall
The absence of residual nuclei is a low power marker of tissue necrosis
The tissue can still reliably be identified as small intestine by the presence of ghost outlines of mucosal villi
Note the absence of polys, indicating an early stage in the infarction with interruption of the blood supply interfering with migration of polys into the necrotic tissue
