Medium power of a malignant fibrous histiocytoma
Medium power of a malignant fibrous histiocytoma

A medium power view of a malignant fibrous histiocytoma.
Even at this power, where the cytological details are not obvious, one can notice that the tumor is extremely pleomorphic.
It contains many cells with single nucleii, as well as multi-nucleated cells, and cells with bizzare hyperchromatic nuclei.
In addition, deeply eosinophilic collagen-like bundles can be visualized at this power.
These features, namely the presence of cells with single nuclei, the atypical, often hyperchromatic, the multi-nucleate giant cells and the collagenous matrix typify malignant fibrous histiocytoma.
