Normal Bone
Normal Bone

A medium power view of cortical bone.
The black arrow points to a Haversian canal.
Careful examination will reveal concentric lines around this canal.
This is the normal pattern of the deposition cortical bone.
The smaller empty spaces are "lacunae."
Lacunae are normally occupied by live osteocytes that communicate through dendritic processes.
These dendritic processes are not visualized in H&E stains.
